Security and Maintenance Updates
Patching
With any site you can log on to (especially those with a database underneath) comes an inherent security risk - just ask the banking service! The ability to interact with a website will be exploited as much as possible by people with malicious intent. Luckily, the Drupal content management system that I usually use has an extremely good safety record. Because it is so widely used (one estimate puts 5% of websites created using Drupal) it is also thoroughly and comprehensively tested. Regular security updates are released for both the core Drupal files and the modules that offer increased functionality. It is almost unheard of for a Drupal site that has been properly patched up to date to get hacked.
Clearly it takes time to update and patch websites, and therefore there has to be a small charge attached to this. Also obvious is that it is in my interests to build sites that are resilient to hacking! Therefore I keep this charge as low as humanely possible. It's another loss-leader to ensure happy clients. I charge a small monthly fee to check your website set-up and update anything that provides a security risk
Backing Up
Most websites I create have two parts: the files and the database. I offer a database backup service which protects against corrupted and lost data. For any site which has regular updates this is almost essential. It's the sort of thing you don't need until you need it!
