Launch of New Website
So, time to freshen up my Three Things site. I created the old site in a bit of a hurry using Drupal 7 Alpha 5; really to see how D7 was coming on. This meant that there were quite a few bugs and I found theming it pretty tricky compared to D6. Also, with the alphas there is no upgrade path - each upgrade is a re-install which would quickly have become a right, royal hassle. So... this site is back to Drupal 6, with all the options for contributed modules that holds.
Scuppered
I duly re-installed Drupal 6 - no problem. Created what I thought was a really nice portfolio theme using the 960.gs 12 column grid. A really nice, subtle combination of browns, greens and pastel blues ripped from some colour palette somewhere. I ran it past a few people and they nodded and said, "Mmm... very nice." without any conviction. I even messaged my 14 year old son, George, for his opinion. Here is his message back:
Nath. I checked out the website, and I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be over-negative, but I hate it.
Re-think
And I've ended up with this, based on a theme from lullabot, which I think is a nice compromise between modern and professional for a portfolio site.

New Site
I like the new site Nat, a big improvement on the original.
