Domain Name (URL)

The domain name is the address by which people reach the website. E.g. www.threethings.co.uk for this site. You can register any name that is not already taken and you can check that at Nominet for any name ending in .uk and at Whois for most of the others.

You can check the availability of your name with some of the extensions and on the main social networks on this excellent new service: ud.com

If you already have a domain name this can be transferred to your new website. That won't need doing, of course, if your new website is built on top of the old one.
